Search Engine Optimisation FAQs

What is search engine optimisation?

Search engine optimisation, or SEO as it’s commonly referred to, is the process of making changes to a website to help it to rank for targeted terms in search engines like Google.

Why is search engine optimisation important?

SEO encompasses many things ranging from creating solid technical foundations to make sure search engines can access the content they need to, to making sure the site is easy to navigate and provides value to users, to creating high quality, useful and trustworthy content.

What does search engine optimisation involve?

For a business to thrive, people need to be able to find your site on the web and SEO is important as it can drive a huge amount of traffic and growth for businesses. The more high quality traffic your site receives, the bigger the opportunity to turn that traffic into conversions and leads.

Technical SEO

Tech SEO aims to achieve solid technical foundations to make browsing quick and easy for both users and search engines. Think landing on the right page from search engines and a quick on-site experience.

Technical foundations ensure all other SEO efforts make a difference. For instance, if you wanted to create a great content marketing campaign and you wanted users to come from Google to find that content, you’d need to make sure it can be discovered and indexed.

On-Page SEO

The methods used are varied but the aim is simple: rank well for search terms that will provide value to both you and the user.

This can involve tweaking things like meta data to improve your click-through rates, to making sure you’re targeting and ranking for the right terms to making sure you’re creating content in the right form to properly engage users and fulfil their need from that search.

Content Marketing

If you need to capture more eyes at all stages of the purchasing journey, you’ll need some content to capture and engage them.

This can be at the awareness stage through creating news, recipes, blogs, articles, videos etc. to answer queries around your product or service, or support their overall purchasing journey, for example. Or it could entail making sure that your main conversion pages are up to scratch and fulfilling user needs.

Digital PR

Google was built like an academic paper - the more citations to your paper from reputable papers, the more authority and trust it has. The same goes for links, the more links you receive from authoritative sites in your niche, the better.

Modern SEO has changed a lot in recent years so the tactics used in years past won’t create an uptick in traffic, and could even harm those efforts. So it’s best to move with the times to make sure you’re making the most of your website.
